Ogre::Overlay or CEGUI ?

Postby diablesse » Sun Oct 29, 2006 17:26

hello,

i am making a car game with Ogre and Newton. i am now at the stage where i need to display a speedometer on the screen. to be honest, i have absolutely no idea how to do this.

there are some posts on the ogre forum about using ogre overlays, and i have asked for information about how to get started using this method. but the Ogre manual itself says that CEGUI is the prefered method of 2D rendering. i have searched this site for 'speedometer', but this returns nothing. i have played with the layout editor but i think i am going to need a little push in the right direction, in fact i dont even know if i should be using CEGUI or not!

any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

Hi,

Glad you have something up and running :)

Basically, with regards to Overlays / CEGUI - unless you need the interactivity which CEGUI gives you, like buttons to click and sliders to move, then you'll most likely want to be using Overlays. Generally speaking, using CEGUI for non-interactive displays is overkill.

CE.
