[CELayoutEditor] Freezes when run

Postby nto » Wed Jan 07, 2009 15:08

Hi everyone,

I've tried installing the binary package of CEGUILayoutEditor 0.6.2 from the website on Vista and XP, but both places fails the same way. Once it's run, it asks for the place of my datafiles, which I give it. Afterwards the main dialog becomes unresponsive, I cannot do anything other than close the application. I've included a screenshot below.

Does anyone know what could cause this? It happens on two different machines, running Vista and XP, so I don't think I'm the only one with the problem.

Thanks in advance,
nto.

Hi and welcome :),

[edit] Wait! To be sure, do you mean normally close it, or Ctrl+Alt+Del? Initially, the main dialog is completely grayed out, until you start an actual layout through the "new" icon on main frame's toolbar.[/edit]

Did you also check this with the 'datafiles' directory which comes with the editor itself? A freeze is really a new issue. Does the bin\CeLayoutEditor.log file tell anything exciting?

Thanks in advance!

I press close on the primary window (not the Main Dialog), but that doesn't end the application, it just closes the primary window and still displays the Main Dialog, but it won't close and it isn't responding so I have to end it with ctrl+alt+del.

It seems the Main Dialog is the only one disabled, the primary window is active but when I press "New", the application crashes.

I've uploaded the debug report here http://www.sendspace.com/file/txy7j0

I hope that's useful.

I'll provide any additional information if there's anything I missed, of course :)

Hi again,

Thanks for the effort in making things more clear!

This is odd, looking at your .xml dump file, there seems to be a problem in this line: "CEGUI::OpenGLRenderer::initPerFrameStates".

My (wild) guess is that something is wrong regarding OpenGL on your system. Can that be the case? Can you update your video drivers for example?

HTH.

Hrmm I doubt that it's my drivers, as I have updated drivers on both computers. My computer with Vista has a HD4870 with the newest ATI drivers and my other with XP has a GeForce Go 7600, with working drivers as well. The problem occurs on both computers, so a driver problem seems unlikely. I posted the debug information from my XP computer, I can try and post it from the Vista machine when I get back home.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I've been swamped with examination hell.

I just tested it again on my Vista machine and lo and behold, it actually worked! I didn't do anything other than reinstall the application. Maybe the debug information on from the XP machine can be useful if anyone else has this problem in the future. I'll just use my Vista machine to make my layouts :)

Thanks for helping me :)

Hi,

sorry for missing your previous reply. Good to read that you have it working now. I cannot guess what the reason can be though...

Enjoy using the tool :)
