First thing I have to say: The new site is really cool! :D

Glad you like it ;)

But I have a serious problem with the new forum: When I read a topic from the old forum, I can't browse between its different pages when it has more than 10 replies! :(

Just for info, the reson this happens when you are in threaded mode is because the old post data lacks the extra information required to do proper threading, so you get those issues when browsing the old topics.

I think the new site is much better than the old Eddie, good work.

I must admit I changed my profile to default to 'flat' forum layout as I am more familiar with that, though it can be useful like when linking to a certain post in pages of a topic etc.

I have mine set to flat too

There are a few reasons I changed from phpNuke (with phpbb) to Xoops:

* A big reason was that phpNuke seems to have many security issues, and while I'm not suggesting that the current system does not have any such flaws, I believe that any improvment in security is better than none at all.

* Another major reason is that everyone and his dog is using phpBB and a whole army of projects are using phpNuke; I wanted this new site to stand out from this crowd, which I think it does.

* From an administration point of view, phpNuke can be a bit funky; the interfaces to the modules that make it up are largely inconsistant and kind of dis-jointed from each other and the site as a whole. With Xoops I found that there's still some familiararity with the phpNuke way of doing things, but at the same time, all components are using a similar interface and approach, so it's very easy to use. It's also very modular and, where needed, is pretty easy to customise beyond what is possible with the admin panel alone.

I knew there would always be people that didn't / don't like the new site, especially after we all got used to the old one. There's a few things to be sorted out here and there, and I'll get to these eventually. On the whole I like the new site and think that the project benefits by not having a web site that looks so much like so many others (I am, of course, aware that even now the site is not totally unique ;) )

CE.

What's wrong with blue? I like blue. You'll notice there was quite a bit of blue at the old site too :P

I will be activating user choice of theme in a little while, so you'll be able to change from blue to something else (no ETA on that for now, just soon).

Don't have a name field any more either, so either I'll have to register or remain anonymous...

That was, actually, the whole idea ;) The General Discussion forum is the only one that allows anon. posting at all; spannerman and I had mentioned this a while ago, but I couldn't do it at the old site due to all the registration and log-in problems, that's no longer an issue so the change was implemented.

I think the worst thing is when the following happens:

1. You get a notification in your mail that a thread you are watching has a new message.
2. You click the link in said email.
3. It takes you to the correct place in the forum. You read the new forum post.
4. You think of a reply. But you're not logged in. And there is no easy way to log in and get back to the same page.

It would be nice if there was a login box there when browing forums for unauthenticated users. And if after logging in you were at that same forum page, then I'd be very happy.

I think I managed to write most of this without actually realising I was not logged in. Huh.

How is it now?
