STL patch problem

Discussion regarding the development of CEGUI itself - as opposed to questions about CEGUI usage that should be in the help forums.

STL patch problem

Postby madsmooth » Thu Jul 21, 2005 18:25

I've been using CEGUI for a couple of months using VC6 with STLport 4.6.2 and everything seemed to be working great. I am using CEGUI to add an interface to a plugin for some software that is already built on VC6, but with and STL patch provided by Dinkumware (http://www.dinkumware.com/) that fixes some STL algorithm issues.

In order for my plugin to work completely with the software, I need to build it against the patched STL. When I try to build my plugin against my unpatched build of CEGUI 0.2.0 or 0.3.0, my plugin crashes, or stops the thread that contains any CEGUI features, as soon as I try to subscribeEvent. (I know its not my syntax bcause the same code, ran prefectly before.)

When I try to rebuild the CEGUI Base files with the patched STL, I compiles, but fail on linking:

Linking...
Creating library ../../../../lib/CEGUIBase.lib and object ../../../../lib/CEGUIBase.exp
maketables.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol __pctype
maketables.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol ___mb_cur_max
stlport_vc6_static.lib(fstream.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol ___pioinfo
../../../../bin/CEGUIBase.dll : fatal error LNK1120: 3 unresolved externals
Error executing link.exe.

CEGUI would be the ideal system for my plugin if I could fix this issue. Has anyone ever had this issue or is there anychance you could try a build on the patched STL?

If nothing else, maybe you could release the depedencies built against the patched STL, maybe this will fix the issue. Any insight is appreciated.

VC6 is now 8 years old, which in software terms is pretty ancient; VC6 support is very touch and go, anything that requires any major work to continue to support this compiler will likely see support for it dropped entirely.

Though I do understand that in your situation VC6 might be a requirement for the plugin to work correctly, which is unfortunate.

Did you ensure you did a full clean and rebuild? I'm not sure what to suggest :?
